Looking back on a decade of jamming
Hello world--
This is a little post to mark the occasion: as of 2024, we've been making stuff together for about ten years (since mid-2014)! We've done a lot of jams since then, and it was only in 2017 we began to feel like we knew what were doing--finishing a jam didn't feel awkward, or disenchanting, or leave us feeling dismayed at failing to make something playable (so you'd pack up, play a few games on display and somewhat dejectedly head back home). Not fun ...
One of our programmers actually managed to find our ToJam 2014 entry here (in all it's glory)
It's been seven years since we made the original 'Squat Off' at the ToJam 2017. We had--to the best our abilities--made a game, decently polished and above all playable. 2017 might not seem so terribly long ago but it was pre-pandemic. Much has changed since, and of course, I'm obliged to say: some elements of the original game haven't aged terribly well 😅.
Last weekend, going into ToJam 2024, we've begun to realise how far we've come. Good times, here's to many more.
Best,
Z
